Last Expense Cover is a financial protection solution designed to cater for funeral and burial-related expenses in the event of death. It pays out a cash lump sum typically within 48 hours ensuring your loved ones have immediate financial support when they need it most.
In the Kenyan context, this is not a small issue. Funeral costs come suddenly, yet the need for cash is immediate. This cover removes that pressure and creates space for your family to focus on mourning, healing, and honouring your life instead of scrambling to raise money at the worst possible time.
When someone passes on, the family often has to move very fast. WhatsApp groups are formed, harambees organized, loans taken. This cover removes all of that.
The benefit is designed to pay out a cash lump sum within about 48 hours upon notification of death, helping your family respond immediately to funeral needs without waiting.
One family policy can extend cover to the principal member, spouse, children, parents, parents-in-law, and biological siblings — reflecting the reality of the Kenyan family structure.
Once enrolled, members are covered for life provided the policy is renewed annually with no breaks in cover. This gives long-term comfort and continuity.
The policy also pays 100% of the sum assured on accidental permanent total disability for nuclear family members, and 50% on first diagnosis of a covered critical illness for the principal member.
Up to 5 funeral claims and 5 PTD claims per family per year, plus 1 critical illness claim. A significant differentiator for larger family structures.
The cover applies worldwide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — wherever life takes you or your family.
The value of Last Expense Cover goes well beyond paying for a funeral.
Funeral expenses are urgent. This cover creates quick access to cash so that the family does not have to wait for contributions or dispose of assets under pressure.
It reduces or removes the need to form fundraising groups and go around asking friends, relatives, church members, or colleagues for help.
A bereaved family should be allowed to grieve, not go into panic mode over money. This cover makes room for a dignified send-off.
Because this plan can extend to parents, parents-in-law, children, and siblings, it helps a household protect more than just the principal member.
With accidental PTD and critical illness benefits included in the cover, the family gets more value than a pure death-only plan.
Simple to set up. Powerful when it matters.
Select a cover amount between Kshs. 100,000 and Kshs. 1,000,000 with a corresponding annual premium.
Add the principal member, spouse, children, parents, parents-in-law, and/or siblings you want covered. All eligible members must be declared at commencement.
Once enrolled and the annual premium is paid, your family is covered subject to applicable waiting periods.
In the event of death, accidental PTD, or critical illness, the insurer pays the corresponding lump sum benefit — typically within 48 hours for death claims.
